Dec 7! The YO phoned tonight to ask if I wanted to do one with one of the trainees (she is sooooooooo lovely in every sense of the word), who has to do it for her training course. It would help everyone if I did as I could drive the trailer over. It is at Fontvieille in the Alpilles, where I have done one or two before - the POR is difficult as it is in the garrigue and the PTV is a toughie. Big question is ... should I lend Racaille? He is only young but oh so sensible (much more so than Paco) - I think he could do a very good PTV - and she needs to get a good score. Though he's only a pone the girl weighs NOTHING (grrrr)

I think only you can answer that one Racaille. I suppose the criteria is what effect it will have on Racaille? Will it be good for him or not, would he prefer yourself? Is he up to it? THen the questions as to whether you could watch your baby being ridden by someone else??? Have to say all sounded very exotic (but double dutch) to me- PORin garrigue (which I presume is a place) and PTV!!! And all I can see in Jeanne and Derek and Darcy in the Valley of Death!!!

Sorry Duckles, I was getting carried away. POR means Parcours d'Orientation et Regularité - which is the orienteering bit - in this case will be about 25km. The garrigue is the scrubby vegetation that covers the lower slopes of the mountains - hard to navigate as there are few reference points (houses, fields, roads) just endless miles of contours. The PTV is the Parcour en Terrain Varieé, the obstacle course, if you like, a couple of jumps, a very nasty water challenge in this case, gate to open, slalom, steps, etc. Racaille is up to it, at the moment he is fitter than Paco, and the girl is one of the few people that I like to see on him, she is light and rides light too.

If you like her and are happy with her riding skills then it may do him good too. But as Duckles says, only you can decide.
Edited to say that at least you will be there too.

Cancelled. Actually, if I tell the truth I am a little bit relieved. I was getting into a flap about getting Paco fit as I am horribly busy ATM and have to plan and ride the route for the Xmas rando ... Stilll ....

Ah well, racaille... At least now you dont have to panic about fittening him up as you say and you can concentrate on the rando (is that randonnee??) I felt so disappointed too one evening I was looking to take Connie showjumping at my riding school and she wouldnt load and in the end we were too late to go and i nearly cried... Whats a rando if you dont mind my asking? Is it like a sort of a cross between a long distance ride and the PTV element of a trec course? Hang on a mo - maybe thats what the PTV is anyway?? ok ive just confised myself now...

Sorry Flea, I get so used to some frog words that I never stop to think.
A rando (short for randonnée) strictly means a walk, but in the horsey context means a longer-distance hack. So what we plan for our Xmas rando is to box the nags to a neibouring village and ride them back, about 4 hours plus, and then have a huge late lunch and piss-up at the club. My speciality, however, is a rando of 3 to 5 days.
And in fact, the PTV of a TREC is a souped-up combination of things you might encounter out hacking: water, hedge, log, gate, low branches, that sort of thing. If you get the chance to try a TREC, do take it. If you can do them in teams or pairs they are hilarious fun ;D

And Duckles - we neeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeed to bring up the D'Arcy/Jeanne story again. I loved it...no idea where it is now or how on earth it could be started up again, but it should be started up again!!!!!
Oh and one last thing - I WILL move to france one day. It's like horsey heaven!
