jus wondered what turnout rugs everyone rates or slates? it took me a while by trying all sorts of different ones but i find Rambo Rhino the best ones for my two. every other rug seemed to rub them and didnt fit well. maybe because arabs are shorter backed and shaped differently i dont know. they have expensive tastes my horses! my friend tried the Tesco rugs and found those the best and cheap.

I love weatherbeetas and Prem equines are good too.
Rhinegolds and masta'a are absolute bull poo and don't fit at all and are very poor quality (and mastas leak..you get it I DONT like them at all..lol). Horsewares are no good for chunky horses as too tight round neck .
I have tried so many brands over years but now stick to weatherbeeta as they fit anything, are good value and last forever (I have 3 still going strong that are over 10 years old...probably more like 15...a 1000 (mini skirt) and two outlanders. saxons are made by weatherbeeta and are okay (my lightweight is anyhow) but they are not for chunky horses as not very generous in length.

I use Weatherbeeta rugs & find they fit my horse really well. He has massive shoulders & really wide chest & I find that a lot of rugs are too tight and pull. The other two horses, a thoroughbred & arab, at the yard both wear Horseware rugs.

I have a Fal indoor/outdoor rug that I've had for 10 years still good as new and never rubs or moves. I have aquired lots of rugs but the 2 rugs that I have ever brought for him are made by Tower farm saddlers in my area. They are a good fit, funky colours and excellent value for money.

Personally I hate Masta rugs and wouldn't have one given to me. I love Horseware rugs and find they are excellent quality and fit my boy really well. They are durable and easy to handle, wouldn't buy anything else I do however appreciate that they don't suit all shapes and sizes z

I agree- I find Horseware rugs the best- I know they are pricey but they last forever and put up with a lot of abuse and are so easy to open close etc.

I have a bunch of Masta rugs and they seem to be fine. Fit is OK and they dont leak yet. I was also told locally that of all the brands they get returned for faults the least. Funny old world isnt it?

I've only had 1 Masta and it fell to bits within 12 months and so have friends'. I suspect that they don't get returned for repair because they are beyond repair and get binned. Of course this is purely my opinion Z

Of course this is purely my opinion Z Not modified your post Zara, just pressed wrong button I would be inclined to agree, I bought one that fell to pieces too very quickly indeed, it leaked as soon as it rained and didn't fit that well either...other owners on yard had similiar experiences and it put me well and truely off them. I wouldn't have one given either! For good quality and value Premier Equine are amazing...i have a winterbuster and I love it. 450g filling (so warmer than a taka, duo etc), removable neck etc etc...£103 delivered to your door within 48 hours!

Rugs in general, anything by FAL aka FAL or slumberdown (or chieftain now). However, i cant afford them so i make do with weatherbeetas, which i love because of the huge tail flap, and horsewear.
However, been put off horsewear majorly as their 7fts are more like 6ft6's but other sizes seem to come up normal (or big in the case of my fly rug).
Shires rub all of my lot, and mastas fit awfully on them!

I am still yet to find a decent heavyweight. Her current one (Harlequin combo) rubs her shoulders and just looks a bit short around her belly and chest! I am going to buy a new one for later this year. I'm not really bothered about makes as long as they last the winter, keep her warm, fit, and have a neck cover!!
Her light/med weight is a Mark Todd and it is perfect for her. Fits her chest nicely...plus it is purple! It also has a neck cover that you can buy seperately (£30 though!!)

Another BIG NO NO for me is rugs that have clip breast buckles that you can press in to fasten rather than pull the trigger. I know a horse that clipped himself to fence once leaning over...I know his owner should have clipped it on inwards but they are an accident waiting to happen IMO.
My prem equine has clips but the sort you have to pull but I am still careful with them. I don't like the ones that have hooks either on breast, like some horsewares do, as then you can't adjust if your horse is chunky.

I love the horsewear rugs, but they just don't fit Chompy he is just too broad all over, Masta do fit him but are not very good quality, so all he has is a summer rain sheet but Mark Todd fit him beautifully although I do have to buy those one size too big and so far seem to last really well too.

I take it all back Masta rugs are rubbish!! LMAO The rug we never use (came with a horse fits none of them?) has a great big logo on it and it must have stuck in my mind. All of our rugs are weatherbeater and they are the ones I like and the shop never get back. Sorry I must pay more attention.

I used to use only Fal as they are definitely very ribust and last forever. But they are expensive. very expensive. So now I use Weatherbeeta or Lavenham. Weatherbeeta fit Ronan really well - and I like their fittings. He has a lightweight turnout, a heavier turnout and a little cooler/ show rug which I use after work, it wicks away the sweat but he stays cool. It's great. The Lavenham outoor rug is brilliant too, it has a neck cover to attach and it doesn't come loose or leak like some of them. I also swear by the exercise sheet Lavenham do, dark blue with yellow binding, sits under the saddle-flaps and velcroes at the front. And it is waterproof so keeps the croup dry during hacks. Most hacking sheets slip back and are pretty useless but Lavenham are really good and I can recommend. ;D ;D

I've always been a fan of IV Horse gear - their rugs are quite underrated I think, the ones I've used have been great, better than the WB or HW ones I've used. Their turnouts have been around a while now and have some great features which I've not found all in one rug before. They come in a range of 'fills' so there's a good selection to choose from for any time of the year. They've just introduced some new models which I'll have to try over the Summer... My friend who has some littlies loved their small pony rugs when I suggested them to her too! Their web site is www.4horse.co.uk if anyone wants to have a look... ( oh, and I'm new around here... hello!! )

Maybe I should send them a link to this forum and tell them to employ me as some kind of internet forum moderator type person... Will you be references??

I love weatherbeeta rugs - they must have been made for my horse as they fit perfectly.
I HATE shires rugs - made for horses whose necks come vertically out of their shoulders!!!
