Zoon must've worn a tight rug or saddle or something before I got him as he has a patch of really wirey hair some of which is white on the top of his withers where his mane ends. Its always had dry skin, but recently had got very flakey and very dry. I've tried sticking baby oil on it to moisturise it, but its not working - any tips?

Hmmm, can't help thinking that a tack sore would have healed by now and I can't think of any reason why it would still be crusty. If it were me, I think I'd mention it to the vet.

That's why I think I'd have it looked at. An injury would heal in time, and though it might leave a scar or thicker skin, I can't see why it should be flaky.

It might be flakey because of the wet awful summer we have had - Harry had a terrible scurfy proper flakey mane, aminly the bottom third...
I washed it with gallop Sensitive and put yes, Protocon on it for a week then washed it again - bleddy ansome now.

Should be completely healed and just white hair by now- unless something else is rubbing it or its still being irritated by something. Check all tack/rugs thoroughly and Id use something antiseptic for a week to try to get rid(Ceejs ointment or sudocrem) but if its not going could be an infection or a invasion (mite etc ) .

if it was mites would it stay in a little patch? It doesn't ever spread. Its about the size of a 50p on the top of his wither. and surely if something was rubbing it then it would go bald over time? The mane is growing fine here (although wirey). Everyone is saying it should have healed but there is no wound to heal if that makes sense. It looks like a case of psoriasis or bad eczema would in a person

Dazzle has an old scar on his withers that goes dry and crusty and the only thing that helps is that Aloe Vera (sp). marevllous stuff!
