Is everyones horses acting like they have half a ton of dynamite up their bums?

Fern is so touchy lately!

Its probably just down to the spring grass and the nice weather but she is just so on her toes the whole time! She is normally so laid back!

We hacked Fern and Jaffa out yesterday. We haven't cantered them out for a while as the ground has been either rock hard or 2 foot deep and they are normally good to walk but I really had trouble keeping Fern steady yesterday and they got themselves really worked up and by the time we got home they were spooking at every little thing and literally dripping with sweat!!
So out of character!

And Sunday I rode her around the school and I had no concentration from her whatsoever! She just stared over at the field the whole time and was neighing every so often! Then when I asked for canter she just bunny hopped around untill I pulled her up! lol

And another thing she never normally does is she now bolts from the gate into the field as soon as you take her headcollar off! She normally wanders about for a bit, has a drink, harrasses for food etc but now she just gets really tense and jumpy until I let her gallop off!

Its just probably normal spring/summerey behaviour and Im over reacting as this is my first year of being a proper horse-owner lol But she is just like a diff horse! Also she is out all night so its not like she has energy from being boxed all night which I could understand.

Is is time to stop her 1 day feed? Will the old Fern be back soonish?

Tonne of dynamite? Ahh that could be why my little brat tried to buck me off 3 times on sunday!!!

Shes not on spring grass either ... reckon our barn is about the only barn without turnout now grrrr

Yep! Definitely! Wondered what that was wen doing her tail!

Absolutely mad when went out yest n was waaaay 2 muddy round us to let her blow off some energy and get rid of it so went most places sideways and jumped everything we saw two foot higher than needed to! Enjoyed it tho! Sometimes she's so laid back she's asleep but every now n then u want a little dynamite - in the right places!

indeed, spring is here!

You have no idea how good it feels to have a pony with some life again!
got quite worried last september time, sox was ok in herself but had no energy when ridden, it was so hard to even get a canter! were worried it was a viru, but she was ok in herself, and the feed people said give her oats, but they didnt make much difference , even having a week off and varying her already varied workload made no difference!

however, this spring grass is working wonders, i have the perfect pony who listens to my leg and jumps like a stag again! x

bracken actually pulling me down the field to do work usually you have to persuade her. sunshines just nutty as per usual and dainty's gotten even more lazy lol

my pika has gone mad today i put her in the field and went to get rocket and she can back out again and ran in the winter turnout with no grass in it

Wahooo, Its not just my horse thats gone crazy And I suppose it does make a nice change not to have to keep using my leg...

Even Chompy had a gallop along one of the farmers fields last night usually we just proceed at a sedate canter no matter how much I ask, but last night... wayhay... we were off and he then proceeded to try to canter up the middle of the road on the way home, most unlike his normal self... as his favorite pace is stop.

I think the flies are really vicious this year- maybe because of all the rain- ours all went bonkers the other night and we couldnt work it out at first, had to laugh though as we were waving our hands about just trying to talk to each other and then suddenly realised-duh!

I wish Max would get a bit more ooomph but is his normal self!! still growing grass wise we are way behind the rest of the country so maybe it is yet to come!

Yes! Travers is also totally out of it. (Welsh Cob, so always with his hoof on the panic button).

Took him for a long ride today and he spent much of it spooking at terrifying things (sheep, pheasants, fallen logs, abandoned Cola bottles and such). I wonder if it is because summer has arrived so suddenly that the countryside looks totally different. Everything here has changed in about 3 days and many things could be lurking in these suddenly overgrown hedges.

On the other hand, maybe our horses have become as depressed by this last miserable winter as we have, and they are just kicking their heels up for sheer joy because the sun is shining and there is some taste in the grass.

Nice to know that it's not just me having such problems.
