My lesson i had booked for Thurs was canceled due to bad weather. So I went this afternoon. Driving up to the place there was lovely fencing, well mantained paddocks tidy yard XC jumps Rode a 15.2 chestnut called Sorrel who looked really lovely. I thought i was gonna be scared cos he seems very big compared to my usual mount. He was very kind though. His canter was huge felt like Fire doing bounce jumps lol The teacher was so good though she found some faults that i had that I wasn't really aware of. 1) I sit bit behind the movement which puts me outa balance. Fire can be very spooky so i guess i must have been sitting defensively. She got me to sit 2" further forward and what a difference! I felt much more balanced. 2) She said in canter i was strong/tight on the left rein. (Which also makes sense cos if Fires gonna be naughty he goes right). She said i Had to leave the left rein alone and trust him. 3) Reins were to long, and i wasn't using my thumbs/ carrying them in the right place. I feel like i learned a lot today. Its amazing how bad habits can build up. OH said its the first time hes seen me smile in ages whilst riding. I feel like I learned quite a bit that i can put to good use on Fire. I'm gonna try and have a regular lesson too So pleased though I'd been nervous as hell this morning. whata wally i am.

I always get a bit nervous before a session so I know what you mean- but its great isnt it coming out feeling youve made huge steps forward. Good on you for going!

Brilliant! Sound like real fun! ;D Don't beat yourself up about bad habits though - we all get them, especially if we ride one horse all the time. Sounds like you really listened to your RI and can put the things you learned into practice. I lurve my weekly lessons - there is always so much to learn (well, there is for me, anyhow....)

Well done! Sounds like the lesson i had a while back! Except i didnt really learn anything new or get corrected really.
Why dont you see if you can take Fire up for your weekly lessons after a while of riding the school horses??

Becca - it is really worth it I have a private lesson on either Chomps or Brave almost every week, I love them, I always get something to work on and the difference in the way the boys go is amazing.

i want to have a couple on another horse first, to iron out my bad habits and remind me how to ride, then i might start having them on bern. There is a little riding school on the same lane as my yard, i may pop in there at the weekend and see if they would tech me on bern and see what they are like

I am gonna have a weekly one starting tomorrow I have been meaning to take lessons for ages. I got a funny phobia about phoning new people so I never did it. I got other half to phone phones are evil. I think Fire would go mental if i took him so much stuff to look at. When i was riding Sorrel i could see a man in the distance running with his dog and i was thinking if this was Fire he'd be fixated upon it! It would blow his little pony brain. I tried my new moves on Fire i took a contact and he put his head up in the air and started being spooky and snorting.....idiot. I tried them all out on Tiggs and got the best canter transistion we'd ever done!
