is galloping along the beach (in control!) on a cobby pony you love to bits, on a nice sunny day. did this yesterday and im still smiling! we cantered through water (obvs not very deep!) as xc water jump practice, and jumped a tiny log we found. ahh it was so much fun, my muscles are aching this morning though! if possible, get your horse to the beach this year! its awesome x

Yes beach rides are wonderful especially if beach deserted and long and the weather is sunny with no wind. I love cantering through the waves, of course it ruins your tack and you totally soak yourself and anyone near you but its wonderful. I love when you canter back towards the shore and the waves are biggish and your horse gives this amazing jumpy canter to get over them. Used to go on beach rides regularly up to a few years ago but haven't for ages. Your post brought it all back. I even loved the aching muscles the next day. In fact I usually think they are a good sign. Hope you go on loads more - you've done great work on your pony to have him in control beach racing!

yeah, its so good for building up muscles ect too!
we dont have control if we're racing other horses (we like to be in front, and usually end up there!) but alone she can be really steady (my 6 year old sister trotted along the beach with me running a couple of feet away), it used to be a struggle to get her to canter but i think thats mainly because she had vry little muscle, and took a while to find her natural balance and rhythm, two years later we;re still working on it!
and yeah, tack was covered in wet sand when we got back, defo not the place for brand new leather! x

its called "horseshoe point" and is about 10-15 mins with the trailer, its usually deserted as its only small, and have to walk along grassy track before you get to the sand!
we went to a different Cleethorpes beach last eyar with a friend, but it was packed and there were loads of dogs and big kites! x

Ah, lucky you, Abi! It takes us about an hour and a half to get to the beaches on the Camargue. They are fantastically long and sandy but they shelve sharply so the water gets very deep very quickly. The lagoons can be OK if your horse is fine with bulls but there's either a lot of wind or lots of mosquitos. Think your day out sounds much better!
