I have just read a report the says Zylitol (or Xylitol), which is found in most sugar free mints and chewing gum (and some sweets) is highly poisonous to dogs!
It causes them to secrete insulin so their blood sugar drops very quickly, then they have liver failure, which can be fatal. if you suspect your dog has eaten some, it is vital that you seek verterinary advice immediately.
Do any of you know about this? I can't find anything to say that it's poisonous for horses, but I'd be very wary of giving any sugar free mints now.

No I had no idea either. I don't tend to give mine mints much but will avoid sugar free now just in case.
