The ODE I was planning for 24th has been cancelled There is however xc training at a BE course on the sunday so not sure wether to go or not, its only 2' 6" for the intro height but having not done any xc for 4 years and max never having done any real ones I am like oooooooh!! ridiculous I know but we were only going to do a 2 ft course! My OH points out 6 inches is not that much(well not when its jumps eh dear?) and I know he is right but oooooooooooooh!! I should go shouldn't I?

Yeah go for it! If you get there and think it's too much for him or he's struggling then you don't have to do it?

hmm, think of the xc jump as poles the same width and height. if you think about it, max probably jumps that big naturally, but xc fences can look a lot more daunting. what height was he jumping before? is he generally bold and brave or more weary? its hard to say because so much of this depends on his personality, if hes naturally more weary (like mine!) id say start tiny and build up slowly as both of your confidences grow. However, if hes sensible but forward and bolder, he will probs be fine! i feel the same, i could get to one local hunter trial this season, and typically it was the only one that was cancelled! so we went for a gallop along the beach instead x

Well, of course you've got to go, if only to prove to the OH that six inches is nothing to shout about! ;D

Go for it- Max is a big horse, 80cms is small, your a geat rider, its a training day not a competition- you will absolutely love it and would be kicking yourself if you don't go. I remember a guy telling me years ago when I was nervous of this hugh and I mean hugh log over coffin on a cross country course - that a horses stride at a gallop is 12 feet and he'd hardly notice the jump. (I think it was 12 feet) I used to always find that a helpful thought. Mind you I know ifs a bit different with a young horse but the difference between 70 and 80cm will mean noting to him

Go for it, practive jumping a couple of hay bales in the mean time, they are about the same height and a bit more solid to look at than poles

I simply dont want to overface him too soon. but what you say it totally spot on !!!!

Ok, its going to be more difficult than i thought (took gem into parkway today to work around the XC fences which were used for the stage 3 exam (no where near up to height though!) and she tried to buck me off at the thought of possibly jumping them Need photos of you jumping etc too, and yes ill pounce on some unsuspecting friend with a camera!!! ;D
