Rebanna- how many miles are you going? You must keep a diary and let us know all about it when you arrive- what an adventure- if a bit forced!

they definately go at the back. would interfere too much at the front. you can get them for the front but they are thinner

You probably know this already, so I apologise but just in case: Make sure you attach the saddlebags to the saddle, and not just lie them over Roos' back, where they would put pressure on her kidneys. Tie them to the D rings at the back of your saddle, so it's the saddle that takes the weight and then spreads it. I don't suppose you have time to get hold of an endurance saddle (they change everything!) so I'm hoping your saddle has D rings at the back .... I would say that 15miles a day is realistic - and it's good that you are counting on walking alongside too. The one piece of equipment I simply couldn't do without on long rides is my collapsible plastic bucket. It it square but folds flat as it great for food or water and I can't tell you how many times it has saved my life. I use a rope halter under the bridle as it takes up less space on his face but that's just my preference. But we always use two saddlecloths under the saddle for long distance. Personally I use a padded cotton one with a real sheepskin whatjacallit on top - amortisseur - the shape of the saddle but without the flaps since my endurance saddle doesn't have flaps (English?) However good your saddle, this is important. One last tip: take some tinfoil with you - invaluable if you get any rubbing tack. You just wrap it round and it's magic! Have fun!

Are you sure? If you've been advised not to ride her, then surely Devon is pushing it. Maybe 1/2 hour gentle hacking once a day, but 200+ miles on an unfit horse is dodgy. Sorry to go against the grain, but have you really thought it through? Will she not load at all? If she won't load now, how will you manage in the event of an emergency? Where will she sleep while you're in a tent? How will you ride and carry a reasonable tent? Who is going with you? If she shows sign of further lameness, what will you do? What if she develops rubs and sores with the old macs? (quite common) Is there anywhere on route she can be rested for several days if she needs to be? If she needs emergency treatment, how will you get her to the vets? Surely, you can find a respectable horse transporter who can help you get her aboard and delivered safely. I just think you're asking a bit too much of a horse with a lameness issue. I'm sure I sound all negative now, and I don't mean to upset you in anyway, I'm just thinking about Roo and how she'll cope with the journey. Please, please think it through, I thought that she had lameness issues! Aaaarrggghh! I've gone overboard on questions , sorry to gabble , I'm sure you know exactly what you're doing. I'm sending you all the happy and good weather vibes I can. ;D ;D Good luck with your adventure, and I wish you every success. ;D

i would love to do something like that. just ride about on horseback and stopping at b&bs. perfect holiday!
have you just tried loading in a trailer or a box? some horses load better in a horsebox. OH has had some bad loaders but they all went in in the end. you could try one to see if you can get her in. good luck with your trip though xxxx

don't panic had the vet check her and do another x-ray just encase we have as long as it takes i quite my job so there's no rush, i have a lorry and a trailer and she point blank refuses going to try all this week to work with her but the land we were on has been sold and they need to move in. roo's lameness was never explained, before it was my back was why i couldn't ride and she's a handful so i don't let many ppl on her, been riding her all week and she's been fine she's been bare foot for 4 year's but thought i should get some boot's just encase she gets sore. I'm going to stay in b&b's and friends alone the way and roo will be stabled at livery yards or most b&b's have there own land and my saddle does have d ring's at the back think that answers every thing, thanks for your concern guy's but roo means the world 2 me i don't want to force her in the box if there's a way round it if it was life or death i now id have to be as long as we take it easy only going to be walking odd bit of trot deffo no canter she should be fine also my vet will come 2 us any where we r if i need her and she's got me a list with number's of the local one's
