So, took Meg to her 1st show on Sun n it was a complete disaster! She's never schooled with other horses b4 n couldn't decide whether to kill them all or run away. She disliked the fact that the school it was held in had huge doors that were left open that ppl stood by n lorries drove past. The group canter turned into a bucking spree once. Was impossible to get her to concentrate on working. Couldn't get right canter lead (tho can get in from rein back on a straight at home!) n cut in massively when on left leg. Then nearly mowed down the judge in the individual show as leapt about out of control! ...All that in the first class!
Took her out of that one unimpressed n went straight back into schooling area. 2nd class much improved -thank god or may have given up the game all together! She worked herself properly, cantered on the correct leads and managed to restrain herself in attacking the poor judge. But in the individual show I think I was too tight as a nice trot-canter transition took nearly a lap -with me giving up on it from trot n bringing her back into a rein back for it.
*Side note -why do horses prefer reinback into canter?!*
Then her lap of honour was ended early as we ducked out of the arena when someone overtook a bit too close for her liking -luckily the rest followed me out so looked deliberate -lol!
So, just wanted to say a HUGE thanks 2 all u guys who gave me the hints n tips about what to expect (even if no one predicted bucking wildly out of control at a judge) n of course all the brilliant answers we get to all our little problems!
