is that "marineland?" we were on holiday in st maxime/st agulf but went to "aqualand" instead, think thats near you?
its not really fair, they are in tiny pools relative to their size but they are well cared for i suppose. if only they had more space.

Yup, that's right. As I said, I can't fault the park - but it just seems wrong somehow. It all took me by surprise as I am not overly sentimental about animals, I don't anthropomorphize them. Aquacity is near us, at Plan de Campagne, not sure about Aqualand.

Its a tricky one isnt it- captivity and being bred to captivity mean we can learn so much about the species in the wild, but day in day out those animals perform, its looks new and spectacular to us but to them its boring old routine with a few wet fish to reward them! I take my son to zoos etc and frequently visit the place in Florida to watch the dolphins/killer whales etc, but I stand at the huge water windows and watch them swim the tank in boring repitition, like watching the polar bears pace the bars etc and I know it cant be right, but still I go! So who is the wrose? The park owners for exploiting them or me and my family for being suckers and encouraging the practice? Im not going to beat myself up about it but intend to go proper whale watching at some point- then maybe- hopefully- it will have scratched the itch!

I know, Brig. I was oohing and aahing with the best of them. Difficult. Seeing them in the wild would be amazing though.

We were going to book a cruise trip but little one was really sea sick on ferry when we went over to Brittany so have decided to wait a bit until we sort that out. Its on my todo list!

good point, just thinking about it we swam with dolphins and all that jazz at discovery cove (florida) and it was amazing.
they all seem happy, and get the medical care they wouldnt in the wild, but is it better not to interfere?
argh i dont know, im neutral.

Racaille, I'm with you about the size of the tanks etc. It doesn't seem fair. But i think a lot of performing animals like it. Dolphins seem to have a real affinity with people and are very intelligent so they enjoy the attention and appaulse- just like some horses and dogs love it. So it i don't think it is cruel if they are treated right . Don't know that much about killer whales (except the 'killer' bit would make me a little wary!)- I know life in the wild can be quite cruel for many animals so captifity and performance may not seem that bad to them. BUt I would really love to go whale and dolphin watching. My sister did it in New Zealand the video was amazing i mean just brilliant. You can do it around the coast here too so I must give it a go. DOn't feel bad about feeling sorry for the animals, just means you are nice kind person.
