Hello! So I am taking Fern to a in hand show this weekend. Its not really anything major, just a fun class but I still dont want to show myself up! So was just wondering if any experienced show-ers (this is my first in-hand show ever! and ferns!) have any tips for me? I know that She should be led and turned so that I am on the outside. But that is about it! I have had advice from friends and that, but thought I'd run it all past you lot first....
Whips. Apparently I need one. Will a plain black jumping whip be ok>?
Browbands. One said plain as she is a hunter, one said patterned velvet as its a showing class?
Tail. I have started the process of pulling/trimming it. But then remembered about the red ribbon (Fern is a kicker) I dont think I could plait her tail now as I got carried away and forgot about the ribbon! Where should I put it!! Would it be too dangerous to not put the ribbon on and just try to steer her clear of other horses>?
Cant remember now...think that was everything! hehe! Thanks!

Whip- use a Cane, or maybe a small brown whip if you can't borrow one (although I'd probably carry a cane or nothing.)
Browbands- It depends on your class, for a hunter a plain one, RH a coloured one.
I wouldn't wear a red ribbon during your show (maybe while you warm up) I would politely turn to the people near me and let them know she might kick, and keep your distance.
Aaaaaand Good luck vibes to you both!!!! ;D ;D ;D

Whips??? no idea as I don't own one
I would personally stick to plain tack, although at a local event it shouldn't matter too much. You will probably be expected to walk around with everyone else (sometimes trot too), then they will call you in and you do a little individual show....usually stand the horse for them to see then walk away from and trot back or similiar. then all walk around again and they pull in final places
Just fasten a red ribbon around her dock if you can't incorporate it into a plait...better safe than sorry and the judges will obv understand why it's there

rather then a red ribben put a green one in as it will your first show with her , then you wont get marked down because of a red ribben and others should still keep away, though even a red ribben doesnt always keep people clea

i'd use the ribbon, so you can't take liability if she does try and kick someone too close, but still be careful as kateflashy says, theres always people who seem to ignore it.
can you plait her tail then put the ribbon round the top?
i wouldnt worry about a whip if you dont have one, and i'd stick to plain tack with her but i dont think it really matters too bad at a fun local show, it is meant to be fun!!
enjoy x
