Never thought of playing that but I know exactly what you mean about it hurting when you fall over in socks (on the odd occasion, our laminate floor goes slippery when washed and if you just so happen to stand on that patch in socks...then you're for it!( Just curious now, what where you doing playing karate on the kitchen floor anyway??? (is anyone impressed? I just wrote all that in the dark without looking at the keyboard once!!! Admittedly I've pressed delete quite a few times, but I guess if I can write all of this without looking at what I'm pressing, then I think I should probably spend less time on this computer!!!) Hope you didn't hurt yourself too bad when you fell

When we were little my sister & I polished a lino floor with furniture polish so we could play skating rinks. We had great fun until dad walked over it in socks - he didn't stay upright for long he he he. We got into such trouble for that.

Do you think I might have time to replace the flooring? If so, what do you recommend? Should I be thinking more along the lines of stable mats, or would I be better off going for coconut matting? I had a horsebox with that stuff on the ramp, and it was pretty non slip as long as it was dry.

coconut matting hurts as well rubber stable mats should be fine as long as no beverages are spilt on it

Personally I find Astro-turf the best for karate-ing in the kitchen. Though its not so good for judo.

You could lay down laods of strips of fly tape. Then no one would slip.

Only thing is would be really painful to get it off your feet after - nearly as bad as falling on the lino! Hmmm, what you need are those slipper socks with the rubber soles.

Well no, mainly because nobody in the right minf=d would stand on it...they'd be too busy eating it to fall over!
