There are NO bad dogs just bad breeders and bad owners. I agree GSD are not for novices but neither is the poor old Lab. Good God how many Labs have been guinea pigs for inexperienced owners. I`m sure the Lab rescue will tell you.

she's insane but very relaxed if that makes sense she was a rescue an old lady had her and couldn't cope my mum swapped her with a friend for a duck with two broken legs and told my dad she was coming on holiday for a couple of weeks and twelve years later she's still here Pmsl! Just seen this, must have missed it before. This doesn't seem like a fair exchange! Why did she want a duck with two broken legs?

dunno that she acyually wanted the duck but she swapped for him and harley was a sweetoe so it was kinda a fair exchange though he died a few years ago when he choked on a grape RIP harley the coolest duck in the world

I've had several GSD's. I've found them all wonderful dogs. I hav e found however that the long haired variety have a more laid back temperament. My short haired one was very good but you could tell that he was not happy if the house was noisy or there were lots of kids about. He went to his bed and hid. So I rehomed him to someone who had no kids and that he could be an only dog. My long haired ones have been so happy go lucky but I found that a large cage was the trick for that puppy distructive stage that lasts for 18months to 2yrs. lots of toys, lots of attention, lots of firmness, You can't start too early with the word NO or for that matter good dog. Also do not walk them as such for the first 6 months. Its something with the way their bones grow and set and helps guard against hip problems. Oh yes and greenlipped mussel is good for them, you can get it in some dog foods. They also can have sensitive stomachs and be fussy eaters. I still love my Petra to bits (too much blue peter watching) ;D
