Poor Doofy Doos not doing well. She had that possible lami case recently. Well that was all under control. Then a couple of weeks after that she suddenly went quite badly lame again - this time was lameness rather than the 'shuffling gait' She was clearly quite in pain. Called the vet, that nght it rained and the next day she was sound again (or at least as sound as she'll ever be) Cancelled vet, put it down to the hard ground. Well for the llast few days she's been really bad again - and funnily enough its been dry. I have called the vet for tomorrow but am really worried. Her condition is clearly starting to deteriorate and I hate seeing her in pain. On top of that the lumps she had on her ear - well the small one is now as big as the first so that can't be good. Poor old girl. Will let you know how we get on with the vet tomorrow. She's tucked up in a nice comfy bed at the moment. Thing is I can't keep her in all summer when the grounds hard. It's just not fair on her. And I've always said I will keep her for as long as she is happy and comfortable in the field. Sorry this is long.

If it is just the hard ground then maybe you could just give her some bute during the summer months.

Hi. Sorry I don't get chance to come on at weekends. Well she's OK. The vets sure that it is her condition taking it's toll. The hard ground is making it worse. She said Doofs soles are so thin that at the toe they are actually soft so any hardness she will feel She does think she's had a touch of laminitis as well but it's not advanced and she is happy for her to stay out on the restricted grazing. So we are trying her on bute to see if that helps. If not then I have to try padding her feet up but she will need to be in for this I kept her in for two days and after being on soft bedding she was much better so I really think its the ground. She's taken a cell sample from her lumps and I should get the results by the end of this week from their lab - they then may need to be sent off elsewhere. She doesn't know what they are either but said that anything that grows that quickly generally isn't something nice So we just have to see how she goes. Fingers crossed the bute will help.

Glad she's not too bad. Have you thought about trying her in hoof boots to ease some of the pressure on her soles at all? Frog supports may also help her esp if she has had a touch of lami. I have heard really good things about a product called sabre sneakers for laminitics but think they may have gone a bit silly as when i searched for them all I could find were boots that resembled trainers in crazy colours. barefoothoofcare.wordpress.com/hoof-boots/

When star had her shoes off M was told to walk her with her boots on with pads it (she used old macs) this helped build up her soles so like haffy said

It might be worth getting some hoof boots for her & putting pads in them. That way she'll be able to go out & comfortably stretch her legs.
