a girth might be a good idea! you've missed that one!! lol Is he coming with bridle and bit? a spare rug for winter is a good idea (just in case) but i'd pick one up from ebay for a spare. Dustbins for feed and feed scoop. That's all i can think of at the minute! Have fun - I love shopping for P and A!!

how did you guess this was my favourite subject what area are you in? do you want to do it on the tinternet or actual shopping? i would get your winter rugs now as they will be cheaper as out of season and try equestrian clearance and buy the best quality you can as horses do tend to destroy things

Would also add stirrups and leathers to the saddle bit as not many saddles come with them..and also some saddle soap!

lol fly spay jack??
Yes we are getting his bridle and bit - we will get the saddler to check it for us.
I've got grooming kit just not mane and tail brush or sponges or place to keep it all!
I've got carr and day and martin spray on saddle soap.
Ha I'm not doing well if I forgot the girth haha!
Erm I've been looking on the internet Savvy and I think it's best to actually go to a shop unless I know exactly what I want.
Still trying to decide on a colour scheme!!

can i ask why you are buying a standing martingale? is it because the horse goes in one already?
some places you can get a full grooming kit in a box which helps if you think you will miss something
also
feed, feedbins, hay and straw buckets (feed/water/bathing) haynets fork shovel broom wheel barrow field poop scoop i always keep a spare leadrope

To start with I would go with the basics to avoid over spending and getting stuff you dont actually need (you can pick these things up as you need them). Some of the things are more for if you are keeping at home. * Haynets if there is no manger or rack - and a few tie rings if you are keeping at home - the yard should have some. * buckets for food and water (dont bother with the special horsey ones - ones from hardware shops or old mayonaise buckets (like i have!lol) do the job. * wheelbarrow and brush - either a shavings fork or a fork for straw. plastic shovels are handy too. * a scoop thing www.derbyhouse.co.uk/prodshow.asp?id=764&cat=5&scats=117 - handy for travelling or poo picking field. * Bridle hook and saddle rack - saddle covers are useful for travelling and generally keeping them clean. * rug hanger - keeps them all out of the way and you can dry them out on it. * 1 or 2 feed bins (hardware shops) depending on whether you want to feed mix on its own or with chaff. with feed scoop * free standing shelves - a must have! supplements and bottles etc. * electric fencing if keeping at home and if prone to lami or a good doer. * Rugs - one lightweight turnout will do for the moment and if you decide to clip later on then you can go shopping for heavier ones. A cooler isnt really necessary except for competing and perhaps if you dont clip, to cool down in winter. * 2 saddle cloths or numnahs (or one of each) to allow for washing etc. * saddle with leathers and stirrups (safety or bent leg are good) plus a girth * first aid kit * headcollar and leadrope with a good quality buckle(s). * grooming box (baby wipes are easier to use for wiping eyes etc. but sponges for washing down etc. and sponges for tack cleaning. * boots arent really necessary unless you find he keeps hitting his legs off each other when riding - travelling i would just get a tail bandage or tail guard. * reflective jacket or tabard for hacking (can get these most places, cheaply) * for the mane and tail i find that a human hairbrush and the carr and day and martin detangler works wonders. * a few old scrubby dandy brushes are good for odd jobs like rug or numnah cleaning or hoof scrubbing. * fly stuff if the flies really bother or if he doesnt have much mane and tail protection or if he has sweet itch - gel, spray, rug and cream. * a wee bottle of shampoo wouldnt go amiss for tail washing every now and then. but not necessary have fun!

if he doesn't need one i wouldn't waste the money. you would be better off working out why he puts his head up (if that why he is in one now) could be his back or his teeth maybe? love your sparkly signature btw

No, i am sure your pony will be fine without any rugs - although getting a good strong lightweight turnout rug will be good in case you need one in bad weather - ponies can stand temperatures down to -5 without a rug! But i would also say to wait until you actually get the pony because you will most likely end up with a rug that doesnt fit. Make sure to measure!
It cheaper to let them grow their own coat and then bring them into the stable at night! And if you plan on clipping in October time then just go out and buy rugs accordingly as and when you need them.
When measuring for a rug you should measure from the middle of the chest round to the centre of the tail. Some companies will make their rugs more for lighter builds or some will make them deep for cobby types but it wont say, so its best just to ask us lovely people for a good rug brand that will fit your ponys build best. Also measure from the withers to the top of the tail so you can check measurements along the back to make sure it will stretch long enough or if it will be too short.
But I say it again - wait till you get the pony before you buy stuff that will need fitted - saddle, bridle, bit, martingale, girth (you can get stirrups and leathers because that is fitted to you), and any type of rugs, although headcollar should be fine as pony sized ones are for really small ponies generally and cob size fits quite a lot of horses.

Oh right!! Well, I would say just let him grow as much as possible of a winter coat - he might not even need clipped if he has a fine winter coat - and then just put on a thick turnout or stable rug. You are better just sticking to a lightweight for the minute to see how you go.
