She had to be induced yesterday morning as she was overdue but had such high BP they has to wait an extra two days. She was in labour for 27 hours (well, not full labour, but sionce induction) and then there were complications so she had emrgency Csection. But she woudln't stop bleeding, all got v serious, so now she is in intensive care. baby girl is fine, and I think/hope she will be too but what a shock - 1st babs and all.

Oh dear, hope shes ok ((((Hugs))))
A friend of a friend is apparently 3 months overdue, the doctors have said apparently that theyre not going to induce her as she wouldnt handle the pain??? Ive learnt to take what this friend says with a pinch of salt, but this is plain stupid ... right?

Hi Maesseren,
They wouldn't allow anyone to go Three Months over, I'm not sure that's even possible. When I was nursing three weeks was the absolute limit then you would be induced, for the baby's sake as well as the mother.
Cheers, Midori

She's either having you on or there was a misinterpretation of the 3 month thing. In my experience doctors really don't care about your perceived pain, especially as there are many options to managing pain.

Your poor friend- I'm sure she'll be ok but blood pressure in pregnany is not nice. A girl from work went into hospital today, she texted me at lunch that her waters broke and I know she is having a section as she has a bad heart but haven't heard from her since so I'm hoping nothing wrong as she should have had section by now. If your friend is horsey she'll be pleased to have the paddocks good wishes thoughts and prayers _ I hope!

Sorry to hear about your friend ceej. After a C section ITU is quite normal even without a bleed as it is major surgery. C-section is more common after induction as you have interferred with the normal physiological process and the whole process is managed rather than natural.
As for the 3 months the dates are either wrong or it's tosh. We let women go over estimated delivery date for up to 12 days then we suggest induction as the placental fuction can deterioate resulting in fetal distress caused by a lack of nutrients. You don't have to be induced it is your choice if you decide not too [although most do] you are monitored more frequently to check the baby is ok.
It is great that your friend has managed to breast feed. Even the smallest amount can make such a difference to the baby's health so well done her!
Sorry to harp on but as a student midwife this topic sparked my interest. It is also reasurring that I still remember what I have learnt so far as I'm on a bit of a study break.

CJ - hope every day that passes is giving your pal more strength and less pain! Glad the baby is doing well and it's really great that she's breastfeeding - it's not always easy at first but worth the effort. Hey, Flash, that was a seriously impressive post! You obviously haven't forgotten your studies, despite your bike accident! Well done - here's a karma for being so knowledgable!
