I was wondering if anyone can recommend which rubber matting to get. P can't seem to grip on the floor of her stable and so I am going to invest in some rubber matting for her, also it should save on bedding for me!! I tried googling it but there are so many companies I wanted some recommendation and also approx price. Her box is quite large but I'm unsure on the exact size until I measure it.

On my last yard I had some Equimats which were excellent but they are pricey. I bought 4 ( 6x4' ish) for £100 second hand Zx

i got mine from a local shop Farmway and they cost £150 for a 12x12 stable. they arent the best mats but they do the job. however, i find that i need to put a bit more bedding down as Dazzle and Emir always smell of wee and Emir is always stained with wee. i dont put as much down as i would if i didnt have rubber matting but enough to soak up the wee.

I have no idea where ours are from! But a tip is to not get them fitted if you can, if you have a strong 'bloke' at hand then get them to do it! Thats where the companies make most profit! My OH and his grandad fitted ours.

Oh and yeah you will stil need a sprinkling of bedding as wee will splash and plus Fern lays down so I give her a bit extra. I remember seeing some mats on ebay once I think?

Ceej. Have you had your cow matting down for long? We were thinking of that, but were told that it isn't likely to last long with shod horses. What do you think?

I have had mine for 3 years and no sign of wear at all. My old yard mate had hers for about 5 years and the back mat was discoloured a bit with the wee, but still absolutely fine. Its easy to cut and really light too. The only disadvantage I have found with it over rubber mating is it cna be a little bit mre slippy when wet (harry charges about) but nothing to worry about. Dunno if cornwlal farmers do it...I got mine from Griggs (who have actually caught on and its a bit more expensive now I will check the name of i and let you know...will take a pic or two too...

Ceej - I Know Griggs well and Mays over the road!! I used to live in Grampound Road and then moved to Tresillian, before moving back to Devon last year. If I could afford it i'd move back - loved it there!!!

I found Griggs a bit expensive for feed - they ran out of Alfa-a last year and so I went to Mays and they would about £1 cheaper if I remember rightly. The mats are brill - really pleased with them so far!!

Oh god not having a good week even the computer hates me now! Got my rubber mats from www.TheBlackMatCo.co.uk. Cost around £35.00 each (6x4) really thick and after 12mths they're not showing signs of any wear, they sit great in the stable, really soft so nice to lie on. In fact only down side is they're bloody heavy to lift.
