I've been looking for a new instructor for a while as I've not bothered with lessons for ages. There is one that comes to the yard every Saturday and everyone said he was great so I booked myself an hour with him this morning. I usually work Saturdays so had never seen him in action, but with so many recommendations I thought he was definitely worth a try. He'd asked a load of questions about me and Zoon on the phone and I thought that was a good sign, but one of the first things he said when he saw us was "why don't you have a flash on him?" In the lesson he was telling me what to do and every time I asked him what he meant or asked if what I was doing was better than before he completely blanked me and carried on talking. I was getting really frustrated and it was showing in my riding. In the end I got so frustrated that he wasn't acknowledging anything I was saying I stopped the horse and burst into tears! Stupid instructor thought I was getting frustrated with the horse but I was crying too much to tell him otherwise. And I had to pay £30 for the privilege of being made to cry

*Hugs* poor ol you, he obviously isn't that good! A instructor should be sympathetic and listen to his pupils. Stuff him, he'll get his compunpences. Keep looking and I'm sure you'll come across a really nice one who will help to instill you with confidence and explain things through. Have a karma to cheer yourself up

Good grief Zoon, how appalling! What a useless, useless instructor! They are supposed to help you build your skills and your confidence, not destroy it! There are too many people who become teachers/instructors etc who may have a real talent for their subject but utterly lack the ability to pass on their enthusiasm/knowledge. Shame about the 30 quid but you just have to put it in the "Bad Days" folder and bin it. It's not you that's the imbecile ....! Have a karma for being brave enough to book a lesson in the first place - and to encourage you not to give up!

Screw him! £30 is a bit expensive anyway especially for an instructer like that. Dont use him again, But dont give up! ask around for another instructer who will actually help you and Zoon. :

how outrageous! people like that should not be allowed to teach!
one of the first things I say is ' if you want to ask a question do it at the time or you will forget' and am happy to explain the reason for anything I have said.
its not that expensive for a private normally but not for someone so rubbish!

The yard owner worships this guy and i thought he was a prize prat. I want my old instructor back as he was great - very strict but always listened at least!!!

Not everyone suits all- its also about clicking with someone. One of my best friends started as my riding instructor. We have great debates re riding and can completely disagree about anything but not fall out. You will find one with whom you click and then great things will happen with your progress- dont waste money on a pratt- its simply not worth it- let the YO waste his/her brass! brig
