i love riding with a passion, but sometimes after i have ridden endurance or strenuous exercises my back gets really painfull. I dont want to stop riding, i just need something to help me, all my friends say that i should try some exercises to help my back and strengthen it, but i dont know what sort of thing to do..

What sort of saddle are you using? You may find a treeless or stock saddle is more comfortable than a traditional treed one for you

pilates or yoga will strengthen your back and improve your posture so look for a class.
i cannot recommend it highly enough

As has been said pilates is meant to be great. Stretching excercises as well I think. there is a site (haven't actually looked at it but might be worth a try)www.physio4horseriders.co.uk and also www.straightenupuk.org. Are you sure you are comfortable on your horse? Ie is saddle ok and are you sitting right? Riding is meant to be good for the back - I know a dressage rider with a bad back who is only able to live a normal life because his muscles support his back so well (great muscles cus of all the riding)

You could also try a chiropractor. I have a friend who swears by a GOOD one.

i used to get uncomfortable riding endurance and any long time in the saddle. i tried a treeless saddle and that did help a lot, unforutnately Dazzle didnt like the treeless as it hurt his back! i have an endurance book with some stretching exercises in them. i could copy them and scan em on here if you want.
a chiropractor would be a good idea just to see if anything is out of line. i used to get a bad neck (mainly from sitting at a desk all day at work) and my riding worsened because of it. they said i had a facet joint of line and she put it back and i havent really had a problem with the neck since then.

Pilates, definitely. But don't try to do it by yourself, otherwise you could make your back worse. Find a class.
Good Luck

i had a op on my back and im in pain most of the time but they say if it a normal (so to speak) back pain only rest for a day then get on with normal day to day things or you will weaken you back by resting to much now im not being rude or any thing but are you sitting corectly just check your position and try a diffrent saddle

i was told to try one of those to correct my position when riding , due to me getting a bad posture from sitting at a desk all day at work

yeh i always wear a body protector anyways, which helps my posture and helps my back but after a long time it hurts.
