Got my mojo back yesterday. It was a departmental championship so I was expecting it to be very hard but I needed the practice. I decided I would really concenate on the POR.
It started a bit bizarrely as there was a test of azimutes. The bed news for me was that I didn't even know the word! Turned out it was comapss readings and although I did the best I could it was a first for me so I suspect I flunked it.
Then off to the POR, again in a lot of pine forest. But this time the high tension power line was where it should have been and it was my friend! Twice I used it to my advantage, I found a marker that a lot of people missed and later I realised I was heading in the wrong direction as it was too close.
I missed a marker at the end - and knew I was doing it, which was flaming dumb of me - but the girl who eventually won also missed one. She and I were often within sight of each other so I think I can conclude that the POR went pretty well. Might have been a tad slow but poor Paco really did not like the stony going.
I managed to keep Paco in the right allures during the COP so that was another plus, not necessarily the slowest canter but a canter all the same, which is not always the case!
The PTV was nice, some varied tests and well planned. Paco was a bit of a star and I rode him with some authority so he did jump the ditch and the two small logs. In fact we did everything but I now need to work on fine tuning as there were quite a few booboos. The gate was going well until he swung his bum round and knocked the bar off And I played it safe on things like the slalom by doing them in trot: the cones were set at five metres and that is just a little too short for him. The others in my class were doing everything in canter which is what you would expect at this level but I I know my horse and thought it was better to get some points rather than none.
I was classed last out of three but could not be happier. The others were all serious TREcies and the winner is just about to compete at a higher level. But no excuses. I need to sharpen up the PTV but I set out to nail the POR and am really pleased that it went well. It was a bit gruelling though, up a massive mountain in hot breezy weather, poor ol P. Bless.
