I have bought a horse (subject to vetting).
I went shopping for a small steady cob gelding and ended up getting the COMPLETE opposite.
Details to follow.

She's very nice Rac; is she a "Muschamp" Trakehner mare? A friend had a stunning one and she had the most lovelt nature to. Hope she passes the vetting x

She's very nice Rac; is she a "Muschamp" Trakehner mare? A friend had a stunning one and she had the most lovelt nature to. Hope she passes the vetting x Yes, she is, Zara! She is Muschamp Tianna. I tried her yesterday and couldn't ride her at all! She was so bouncy. But I tried again and it went better. She has been owned by the same person from being backed at four and they have a very intimate language that depends a lot on the rider's seat. But even in the short time I rode her we were starting to get the hang of each other and my coach, who also tried her, says I will get used to her way of going. But her USP was her incredibly calm and easy temperament. When she didn't get what I was asking the worst she did was to slow down. I totally fell for her sweet ways. Plus, I think this is the only time I will ever be able to afford a quality horse....

Oh wow she looks gorgeous! Very flashy!! How big is she? Well the owner says she measured her at 160cm but I thought she was a bit smaller. Which is a good thing for me She didn't ride big, anyway.

Wow, what a stunner, hope she passes/has passed the vet. Very nice indeed, does she jump too or is she a dressage diva? I can see the teenager fighting you for her, as a second ride, if she jumps too!
I'm guessing the long viewing trip you were embarking on was well worth it x

Yup she has a great pop although I won't be doing a lot of that with her! Both the T and my coach fancy her as an eventer!

Problems.
The vetting was due this morning but the owner phoned to say the mare was injured. She had joined a mass girlie breakout from the fields and they had gone to visit a neighbour's stallion. She came back with a small leg injury that the vet is treating with anti inflammatories for a week and then another week needs to pass for thr drugs to exit her sytem for the full vetting. Oh and of course she will need the morning after jab .... Why in god's name did I think a mare was a good idea?

That's horses! Mares are entire after all. More opinions thoughts and needs. Get a good one and they are amazing. Unfortunately I had a very naughty one who coloured my judgement. Would love to be proved wrong though. I know there are good ones out there.

As someone who owns a hormonal mare - seriously another horse looks at her and she's in season, it cannot be normal, they really are pretty fantastic. Once you have them on side they are great, getting them on side ain't easy (though in savvys case a piece of chocolate orange did the job....)
I hope she passes the vetting and there aren't any minies on the way.

It'll be two weeks minimum Pboy. She's on anti-inflams for a week and then the vet will wait a good week after that for the drugs to get out of her system as she couldn't be sure she was sound if drugged up. I have had the conversation about the morning after jab with the vet but the owner will have to agree to pay for it. grrrr

Bit of a long story so I will try to be brief: a woman who events at high level (and is coached by my coach's coach) is retiring her 12 year old mare as, although she has done one 1* comp she cannot go further. The owner is buying a promising youngster and does not need to sell her mare to fund it (another world, huh?) She adores the mare and wants a good home where she can go on working at low level. My coach thought of me .... Well I tried the mare yesterday and it was instant love. She is BIG at 1m65 but she talked my language, I felt pretty instantly that she and I could get along in a way I had not felt for the other mare. When I asked for and got a nice walk to conter transition I felt that despite her size - the extra 10 cm on Paco will take a bit of getting used to - I was comfortable on her. She is s serious horse who has a lot of trophies to her name, much too good for me at my level but I hope to improve At the moment we are discussing how I take her on, whether it is loan or sale. Clearly I do not have the budget to buy a horse of this quality but the owner is willing to come up with a deal. I have pulled out of the other mare, I feel rotten but there it is, I have had the coup de foudre and now realise I do need it when getting a horse. All of you who said word of mouth was the way forward were right ......

Wow, she looks like some serious horse power! What an amazing opportunity and how nice the owner wants whats best for her and not just to cash in. I bet the teenager is green (and plotting how to secure her second ride!)
