Not my most favourite thing to wear but with getting pen jumping my current priority (if the ground softens again as we now have concrete, after floundering in mud for months on end!) i've just bought a new one. Looked at so many different types/makes and the prices seem to vary greatly - so being a cheapskate and knowing i'll only really wear it if i really have to, (as in somewhere where it's compulsory to do so to jump) ,after a bit of research went for this one off ebay, purely down to price. And it's the very attractive, bargain price why i'm posting! It's come really quickly, and although i haven't ridden in it yet can't actually fault it so far, it's no more uncomfortable/bulky than most of the others i've looked at in shops. Might change my mind after riding in it though so watch this space. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Speq-Adults-Horse-Riding-Body-Protector-BETA-2009-Level-3-Standard-EN13158-S-M-/181869784100Edited to add - for those who compete xc or in anything they are compulsory they are probably not comp legal as i think they have to be on the beta list for that and i would doubt this is since it's packaging etc is all in German x

It doesn't look particularly comfy to me but of course you need to try it. I've got a RaceSafe and it's as comfy as I think you can get. I am seriously looking at an Air Jacket from them

I'm confused with the air jackets as i'm sure i read somewhere you have to wear a body protector too if competing and the insurance at some Xc courses states body protector and air jacket isn't covered?
The racesafe ones do look fab and comfier than most but at the tack shop they were nearly £150 for the level 3 ones! I was comparing it to the mid price range ones i tried which were mostly similar velcro tabard styles.

looks similar to mine Haff which is sat idle in the tack room, mine is a branded one but not sure what and I got it at york Auctions for next to nothing. Once Ive worn it for a bit I forget Ive got it on but havent worn it for a few years!! funny but wouldnt dream of letting my boy ride without one- his is racesafe.

I bought an air jacket on Saturday! I got one from Treehouse and it looks like a gilet, very comfy and light. I think you only have to wear a body protector under an air jacket for X-country, for other disciplines you can wear one or the other and I don't think they're compulsory for show jumping.
Edited to add that it seemed more riders were wearing them at the weekend than not so not sure about insurance, may need investigating.
