Such a shocking accident .....
The T was competing at a complet yesterday. The ground was dry and hard. She had finished her XC and Sam had been brilliant.
She was watching when a competitor came along, went over a jump and then struck off into a turn. The horse lost his footing, slipped over compeletely and went down hard. The rider was thrown onto the ground and started convulsing. The horse did not get up.
The ambulence men were there straight away and the rider came to before being taken off to hospital. But it became clear that the horse had broken its leg. The course was cleared while the vet arrived.
The T said the most terrible thing was that it was almost a banal accident that could have happened to anyone. Many tears.

How tragic Rac and how distressing for everyone. A stark reminder that our sport is dangerous us and our equine friends. RIP horse x

How awful Rac, and as you say a simple accident that is almost impossible to predict. Though my initial fear on reading your post was that a rider had been killed, I was relieved to read that she was conscious. Any update on her?

Such a tragedy. Poor horse, poor rider. Hope she is ok. Very upsetting for everyone. I was watching showjumping at the Great Yorkshire Show and a big chestnut horse got its stride wrong and fell. It too broke a leg and had to be put down. Again very upsetting and stays with you a long time.

I know, quite shocking.
The rider has not broken anything apparently. That's all I know for sure as she is not from around here. I imagine she is being kept under observation after the blow to the head. I hope she will be OK, both physically and emotionally. It was her trainer's horse.
