Indio and I headed to our first comp since February (or was it Jan?) today. It was at our local BD venue and we'd entered two Prelims. My objective was simple, I needed one more score over 66% to gain our Regional championship qualification. My 'stretch' target was to get 68% or more as we've been a bit stuck around the 66-67% mark. My OH has been telling me for a few months that I need to get 70% so I guess that was my stretch stretch target!!
Well...we only went and got 70.42% in both tests! Indio felt fab, he's starting to get true right bend and his paces feel far more energetic and springy. We had a few errors as well, we had a teeny spook and a break in canter in the first test. Second test was bumpy as there are stables next to the arena and someone got a horse out just as we went past. Indio didn't actually spook but he stuck his head up and tried to go and look, resulting in a drastic course direction from me and a jump over the white board! Our halts are still terrible too - he anticipates them then sticks his head out and becomes completely disengaged. I can do ok halts anywhere else in the arena at home, but not on the centre line. We will get it sorted at some point!!
Here's our second test:
Plans now are to crack on with Novice, and possibly squeeze in an Elementary this year as lateral work is easy for him and walk-canter is also one of his preferred party tricks. Next week we have our Team Quest debut.
I so love my horse, he's so affectionate and tries so hard. I just want to eat him up!
