Poor Harriet- again. And again she had me seriously worried. No digital pulse but acting as though leg falling off and swelling and heat around fetlock. Nearly took her straight to rainbow but then common sense took over and I asked farrier to come look. I poulticed overnight just to get sole really clean. She seemed easier this morning and sure enough there was a suspicious spot on poultice in the heel corner and a digital pulse- bingo. When the farrier came he found a really deep one. Think it will take a while to come out. She has been a bit proppy through the shoulder lately and on tues she was a bit iffy in her mouth so it stands to reason its been building up for a bit. Glad really as she was starting to go nice again and I was a bit concerned re the shoulder issue.

Such a pain but at least it wasn't anything worse. Hopefully the weather will start to pick up and stay a bit drier too to speed her box rest up.
Sounds like she could give murph a run in the drama queen stakes, he always does the broken leg act!

I hate abscesses. Pete came in from the field once and just lay down in his stable. Thought he was dying. Vet job of course. Sunday evening of course! They are horrid but do heal. Tubbing is very helpful. As are nappies!

Phew! While I wouldn't wish a painful abscess on her, it is better than the alternatives! Hope she heals quickly.

Murph has another one too! Hopping lame yesterday and slightly swollen fetlock, it has burst overnight and he can walk again so he spent the day out today poulticed and booted in hope movement will help it drain, but he was happy enough to come in tonight again. This wet winter has a lot to answer for, his feet are in a shocking state, we haven't been plagued with abscesses for years

Im sorry you have succumbed too Haffy. Its a nightmare. Sadly I think once they get them they seem prone to them- maybe the abscess leaves 'tracks' within the foot structure so its easier for infection to travel?? Whatever it is its darn annoying!

yes definitely agree with you, last time he had them for on and off for well over a year, and one of his holes was only allowed to heal up/grow down a couple of years ago, it was nearly 10 years ago now he first had lami and the hole dated to that!
These last two have been on the sole rather than the whiteline/hoof wall though x
