After the complet near Montpellier (see XC thread) which took three and a half hours to get to (I drive quite slowly) I wondered how far you all are prepared to go for any kind of event?
Our normal trip is an hour and a half but got another big trip this w/e ... what do you consider normal and what would tempt you to go further afield?

Two hours is my max- Its not really the journey there although that can be stressful enough, its the coming home, especially if you are cold wet and tired.

For dressage not more than an hour unless it's a championship. We're lucky to have a few venues that are under an hour away thankfully!
Mind you, I went to our fave venue (thanks to their cage with very tasty homemade cakes plus a clean toilet!) on Saturday and it took me 50 minutes to get there, but over 1.5 hours on the way back as an accident had closed the A road that the yard is on...we were only 5 miles from home! And of course it had to be just before the junction that would have given us a nice short extra loop. Instead I had to double back then go through Lambourn, about 15 miles extra and it was hammering down with rain by then.
As a side note, I'd have expected the roads in the 'Valley of the Racehorse' to be better for transporting horses. They're terrible! Little more than single track and full of potholes. I now understand why most of the trainers seem to have 3.5T boxes...

and the racehorses cope with any sort of driving!! Its always the faff when I get home that puts me off a long session. Got home tonight after local RC session and left the trailer until the morning and all the tack in the car. Did the stables and found Harriet on three legs so spent another hour trying the figure out what had gone wrong there.

Yeah, I do that too Brig as we nearly always get home after dark. The advantage of France having lots of space also has the disadvantage of events being far away: this w/e we are going to a complet north of Montelimar, next w/e I have a TREC literally down the road but the one the w/e after that is the other side of Mbottomille on the way to Nice. I get to see a lot of scenery! PS How is Harriet?

Do you enjoy the driving though Rac- Im so busy watching for the corners and the camber of the road I barely see anything.
Will update on Harriet, letting her have her hay whilst the ice pack chills then will have a good look.
