I am a bit of a dinosaur and still have a tiny old steam-driven mobile phone. I keep it because it fits in my jodhpur pocket, won't break my hip if I fall on it and I won't cry when I drop it and Paco stands on it. 
But my provider has changed all its pay-as-you-go tariffs and I am now forced to pay the same as a contract so I am wondering whether the time is right to join the twenty-first century
But I am worried about having a large, expensive phone when out solo hacking - which, let's face it, is when you really need a phone.
So what do you do? Do you keep a tiny phone for riding or risk taking your smart phone?

On the other hand, all I need a riding phone for is emergencies. Think I'll keep my dumb-phone for that.
