So I have decided that I need to challenge myself and Paco more. With the exception of the COP (in which he is a little sh!te ) he is capable of quite a lot of stuff so I have entered a TREC on Nov 8 and stepped up to Club Elite individual level, ie 20km POR plus more interesting PTV. There will be more emphasis on the correct speed over 20km although it's not hard to work out, it's just that you have to make sure you don't flash past a marker as you try to make up the time! In the PTV there is likely to be a gate but I can't practise as I don't know whether it will be an up and over or a go through and close behind type but in any case there are no gates round here. I like the 'low branches' and Paco has made great strides about going through water. So we'll see how we get on.

I'm sorry, I was interested and thought I had replied! I often read posts on my phone then plan to reply when I'm back online, but I don't always remember It sounds quite fun and exciting, doing 20km plus the other sections certainly makes the journey to a competition more worthwhile! Dressage is always over and done with so quickly in comparison

Sadly the comp on Sunday has been cancelled following the death of one of the club's riders.
Next one is the following Sunday so I shall try again.

Sorry to hear that, hope it wasn't someone you were very close to.
Is the next one also at this higher level?

Yup Haff, it is. I've arranged to have a lesson with the 'King of Trec' (who lives locally) to give me some pointers for the higher level: eg for wrong side mounting (which I find very hard) you can add a loop to your stirrup to lengthen it. So, stuff like that plus some practice on his gates!

Yes Brig, there's one next Sunday and the King of Trec says it's a better one to start at the higher level as the terrain is easier. Starting to get nervous already - but I'm trying to tell myself it's just for fun. My goal is to not be eliminated, that's all!

I will be thinking of you. We are off to the beach, there's a break in the weather forecast and the tide is low so hoping to persuade hubby to come along also. Beak wants to gallop. We had the choice of a pleasure ride but the beach got the vote as Im hoping Toudle will behave and at least I know Welly will help him stay sane!
