It wouldn't work for me (probably because I still haven't updated my OS ...)
But it made me think of something the osteo was saying when she came to do the boys this week. Paco was 'spooked' by something and I patted him in an effort to calm him down. Her view was that I was giving him the signal that I was happy with him spooking and that he had done well to 'save me from the danger'. I should - especially when riding - be totally unmoved to let him know: I'm not bothered, you don't need to be, either.
It made complete sense to me. I've been giving him the wrong signals all these years ....

Depends how you view it though Rac, a pat helps a horse relieve tension, as it relaxes the muscles. There's nothing wrong with reassuring a horse in my view, but its the timing of it that is crucial.
