Went showjumping today, first jumping outing since last september! Good to be back at it, almost a year later! Had such a fun day despite being dosed with the flu feeling achey and bunged up! But the sun was shining on us!
Went to a local venue which was hosting a charity show and there was one arena for xpoles upwards and another arena for 80cm to 1m30 so really something for everyone, there was a great crowd!
I was unsure whether to do 60cm or 70cm, i have only been practicing at home so didnt know how he would cope with a large arena with a lot of cantering and full up jumps. Plus i was a bit nervous about doing a jumping competition (even if it was only clear round) as i havent jumped a course on him in a year. I dont know why i get nervous when he knows his job inside out lol!!
Anyway, the show started at 9.30am and me and my friend got there just after 10 so we wouldnt be rushing, however the 60cm wasnt on until 12.30 and then I wasnt jumping until 2pm! Was careful not to warm M up too much as i was afraid of him getting tired (worry wart!) - i nearly had palpitations when walking the course, they looked huge, some with fillers and a 1 stride double. Went in and rode on positively and he sort of went - ok then! and went up a gear, he felt quite fast but apparently he just looked like he was moving on nicely - im too used to him going slow! Still, it didnt feel like he was out of control though i did have to check him a few times! And i could have sworn he nearly had a wee buck after one jump! The only downside was that i nearly gave myself whiplash at the double as we got too close to the first jump and then leapt over the second! lol!! Havent actually had him over a double so far, looks like we will have to get the gridwork out!
We were one of only 6 double clears in a class of over 20 entries! (16 jumps in total and he powered round, he didnt tire at all! so pleased he was fit for it as i wasnt sure having not done it yet) He gave me a fantastic feeling round the course, i love jumping!! I felt like i could jump him over anything!
