Went to a charity show on sunday - have been on a bit of a low the past couple of weeks and to top it off the weather was forecast to be heavy rain and flooding all day - so frustrating when thats the only day you can go anywhere! Of course saturday was a glorious day, at least it was a good day to be bathing ponies! We decided to leave at 11 as of course all the classes i was suitable for were at the end of their rings so i was expecting them to clash and not be on till about teatime! Heavy rain when i was plaiting was a bit ominous - so much so i had to get mum to check facebook to see if it was still running and if there was anything else we could go to last minute if worst came to worst!
However as we were driving up the road, the rain gradually eased and on pulling into the equestrian centre for the show, the rain had stopped and we saw a completely packed car park, we could barely find a space to squeeze into, and luckily enough we also managed to get a space that wasnt in the middle of a huge puddle which was quite an achievement considering the amount of flooding. Excitement started to build, the atmosphere was brilliant, everyone was milling about and horses everywhere.
The class timing worked out perfectly, i had 2 in hand classes with only an hours wait from we got there and then we were able to have a picnic before doing the ridden classes. Couldnt believe it!
First go at in hand, i did the in hand veteran and the in hand non registered (native i assume?) - got 2nd in the veteran, he was obedient but dont think i trotted him on fast enough, was hard to run lol! Then stayed in for the non registered and got 1st! was good to have that practice run as i tried to run faster without falling over so it must have worked! Got a box of chocolate in each class along with a rosette. Decided not to bother doing the in hand championship. Got told by judge that i had a prize for winning so on enquiring it turned out i won a bag of cool mix - brilliant prize!!
Had our picnic and had a wander about, there was a tack shop stall and came across a pair of purple breeches - very hard to get a pair of coloured breeches and fed up with navy and black. £15 bargain!
Murphy went well in the warm up, nice and sparkly, but as the warm up was a distance from the ring we ended up standing around - this doesnt do murphy any favours, he falls asleep very quickly! lol! First class was 'adults on ponies' - the other two entrants were a girl on a section A or B (way too big for it) and a lovely woman on a piebald cob but it keep stopping on her. Ended up winning that class although M was rather unenthusiastic and in the pics he just looks like hes out for a sunday hack! Only put ears forward when he got to stand still!
Anyway that qualified us for the novelty championship, nearly didnt bother doing it as thought maybe too much as he was being v lazy (i tried giving him a tap with the stick but it echoed so much in that indoor!) After a bit of a walkabout we did a short showpiece each - the other entrants included young handlers and fancy dress, only one other ridden entry. Won champion and got a fancy sash though - i bought the photo the photographer took so will put it up! First sash!
Final class was in the pony ring, i did the veteran pony class. Tried to gee him up a bit for this so think he went slightly better! Judge was the nicest judge, she chatted to us and asked us about the ponies etc and was really nice, the others you could hardly hear what they were telling you to do. I got 2nd in this class - the 1st place was a wee girl on a 25yo pony and it really flicked its toes in the showpiece so the judge said she thought that was brilliant. It had more oomph than M lol!! Probably about 10yrs younger haha Typically he livened up in the lap of honour! - he livens up when he feels like it lol!
So all in all a fantastic day out - got my little day at a show and that will be all the shows now for the season! Just a pity about the weather as it would have been on grass otherwise. We had a brilliant day and so pleased that things turned around and went so well!
Going for a flatwork lesson now on thursday and hopefully a little bit of jumping at the weekend before im back to college on tuesday!
