Today i went on my first outing with murphy in 7 months! A real milestone, never thought id get to this point! Owner said i could take him for a forest ride for a change of scenery - no cantering yet so just a quiet ride round the paths. Weather decided to put a spanner in the works but i was so looking forward to going - it was forecast for heavy rain and gales! I got up this morning and it was dry but threatening to rain so we decided to go ahead and hopefully dodge the showers! Unfortunately by the time we got to the forest it was raining and we did get rather wet going round but it was still a lovely ride just because i was out doing it!
I met my friend and her cob and we had a great hack, murphy was all perked up and stepping out well and we had a couple of long trots at the start. He died a bit then after that as by that stage we were quite wet and perhaps it was a case that i wouldnt normally trot on the roads for that long in one go and that he just needs more stamina. I chose this particular forest as its not too hilly and the trail is about 6km so not too long either. He wasnt puffing when we got back but he did look a bit miserable however perked up once he got his hay on the trailer lol!
All in all i think it was a good first outing and despite getting soaked we had a lovely picnic in the car and a nice day out!
even better news is that owner has said i can start a little bit of schooling with him this week and if he goes well i can do some shows in the summer! never thought id be able to consider doing what i did with him last year! so excited!
