I have stopped rugging Paco overnight, although I am continuing with Sam as he's a baby Well, he's got fine skin and a lot less hair than the rustics. But it's been a bit of a dodgy call, we've had a lot of rain since I let P be naked overnight and he is no longer white They are all naked in the day and have been all winter as it warms up fast when the sun shines. I haven't needed to use the heavyweights at all. But the combination of warm/damp has caused its own problems: I will have to start putting fly masks on very soon ... How/when do you decide to stop rugging?

Sorry no help here, murphy has been rugless all winter. I think its just a matter of trying to accustom them to less rugs/no rugs when theres a chance to do so depending on the weather. No idea! Maybe you just whip it off some night its mild and if you go to them in the morning and theyre cold then keep it on for another while?

Harry and pen have been naked all winter. Today is the first time this week i've left a rug on murph in the day...just a lightweight, and he's only been wearing a medium weight with no neck at night for a while overnight even though we still get the odd frost. I tend to have no set rules but base it on the weather although at this point i do put the neck and heavy weights away, even if it is cold, at the end of feb as it's not cold for as long and i'm always thinking about lami too so loosing a bit of condition isn't the end of the world now we've broke winters back.

Bit like Haff, just try and gauge what is happening day to day but leave MW on at night but no necks. Because I don't use much bedding- just banks, they need some sort of night rug on if only a LW waterproof.

Brave and Chompy who both had full clips are now in rain sheets during the day, although yesterday was so nice they went out naked for a whole day!! They have m/w on at night as still cold at night. My philosophy is during the day in the field they can move about to keep warm if they have to, at night in a stable they can't.
Dexter and Roly never rugged anyway.
I gauge it by the weather, but wont be putting on anything greater than a rain sheet during the day now.

I don't have any cut off time as the weather can be so unpredicatable where the boys live; yesterday we had rain, sleet, snow and sunshine within half an hour! So they are always rugged to match the weather.

We had hale rain and wind yesterday followed by sunshine! Bizarre weather Pete in a rain sheet daytime and 250gm combo at night but out and not clipped. Rugs not coming off for a while. Had a couple of naked afternoons. Mane is a casualty of the combo rugs though :-(
