It's taken me long enough to find her but she is just magic for me. She pushes me enough but doesn't freak me out, she is genuinely interested in me and the ol boy. Yesterday, P was in a bit of a strop and was fixing his jaw and neck so we worked long and hard on some softening exercises. Yes, I fear I lost my temper a couple of times with Paco, who was looking for excuses to evade - even E (my coach) was tickled at how he can spook at nothing (thought of you, Pboy!) But he eventually started to do some nice work, right rein much easier than left, as always, but he is making some progress. He did some decent canter work too. Now E is encouraging me to get to one or two dressage comps before the end of the season in June. It would be helpful to read the protocols afterwards and see where we are improving and what needs more work. E warned me (as if I didn't know : that P will be tense/silly at new venues but it might be fun. Now have to look at venues that I like ... And she also said that P looks much more like 13 than 19 !

That sounds like a positive lesson, and it really is great that she has a passion for helping people learn and is genuinely interested in you. You might as well give it a go, just think of it as a wee day out!

Lol, I think Spanish horses like to keep us on our toes with their random spooks - Pocholo was just the same!! Go for it with the dressage! I'll be taking Indio out for his first competitions too so we can compare notes

such a nice boy! Im glad you've found someone, its really important to find 'that person' I liked Amy who I used when I started Harriet off but I prefer J because I have more fun, he has a great eye, but then isn't afraid to say he doesn't know something or asks me. That's a rare skill for an instructor and its so refreshingly honest. Cant believe he wasn't born when I took my first exams!
Your baby comps will be fun and a benchmark, and Paco is your learner, a bit like a first car, something that does the job but needs TLC and attention and acts as an improver. Your next horse will be interesting......
