Another love my mare post!

Following on from Brig's post yesterday i too want to declare i love my mare!

Funnily enough i was slightly worried about how i'd get on with her as my only experience with a mare was Khara custard who was crotchety, to put it mildly (she was also chestnut!).

Feeling pleased with myself as i've ridden two before 10 am today, schooled harry for 20 mins then a quick hack on Pen. Made quicker by a rather too fast canter across the top of common...and a few seconds of not sure if i'm going to stop Mum...but which left me with tears in my eyes from the wind (that's when you know it's too fast!) and a huge grin!

To be fair we had had one steady canter but the transition was terrible so we'd pulled up after a dozen or so strides to try again straight away and her blood was up. She gets buzzy if i canter too much schooling too and at home it's generally counterproductive as she then favours the right lead terribly but this morning was also good in that both times she gave me left lead (after totally failing to get it all schooling a few days back).

So yeah i love my little mare too.

Aah, great post HF! She sounds like a bundle of fun

Indio always prefers the left lead but in the last two weeks he's suddenly 'got' right lead and offers it on hacks now. It's such a good feeling when they suddenly understand and are strong enough to do it!

I'm so happy for you that you and Pen found each other - it sounds a though your partnership is growing stronger by the day! You seem to have rediscovered the joys of riding after so much angst with Murph. How is he by the way?

Still a bit jealous and grumpy towards her when i'm around but is also the first to scream when i take her out! He needs a good cuddle and regular fuss to know he's still no.1 but he's enjoying being a field ornament I think. I do plan to try riding him again but if he says no thanks i'll just let him be again, he doesn't seem to mind occasional riding but is not overly keen on working full time (bit like his Mum!) and he's been perfectly sound for ages. He hates schooling and won't hack without Harry hence my reluctance to get back on at present.
