After some consideration I've decided to try AJ and T on Turmeric. I joined the FB page run by the Aussie vet and if everyone is to be believed Turmeric can cure just about anything lol. I've been given a couple of "recipes" but I just wondered if anyone here uses it and if so how much turmeric do you use with how much oil and black pepper?

hi Zara, I use turmeric with olive or sunflower oil and I use it for Toudle and Basil, I keep meaning to join the FB group but keep forgetting (duh) I havent used black pepper so would be interested in the reasoning. I buy small sacks of KTC turmeric on autoship from amazon which brings the price down further and I use a sack every three months. I give Basil two tablesthingys per feed (so four in total) with a glug of oil- I premix my feeds so it all has time to blend as when I feed it straight away they leave bits as its bitter. Toudle in particular can be fussy with this. I dont really know if it makes a difference as I now also use no bute but Basil hasnt needed top up injections in his hocks and Toudle is sound but I think the no bute helps him more as when I changed brands recently he was sticky through the shoulder again. You can use it for dogs also and humans and I found something which says that turmeric, cinammon and honey applied on a sarcoid can reduce it so I made a paste and now apply that to a sarcoid toudle has developed near his sheath- interestingly enough when I checked just before my holiday the sarcoid seemed smoother and less obvious. I will check after the weekend again when I get back. I do think it is like any supplement- it might work for your horse and it certainly a lot cheaper than the branded stuff so worth the effort- but be prepared for orange noses! (I did also think of melting a huge lickit block and mixing turmeric in so it forms a huge therapy lick but havent got round to that yet!)

I saw a post on a group on facebook of someone who makes tumeric treats, which you then just feed. I don't think it had any pricing but i can try and find it for you if your interested.

No i was just reading a discussion about it on a Highland pony group - all very positive stuff, just sounded a faff having to mix with oil and pepper, then the treat post came up next day.
