Went to a XC training session yesterday and the boys were stars. Unfortunately I wasn't very well, having been up most of the night before with a thingyy tum (not at all like me). So I only did about half the session as I was feeling pretty frail.
But the lads were awesome! Paco was really powering around, even pulling, most unlike him, but I think I rode him more positively than I have previously. I was also thinking about my leg position and it is better, which makes me more stable. I did a good half dozen different obstacles before my tummy told me to stop and then the teenager took over. Poor Paco didn't know what had hit him! But he went brilliantly for her, ending up doing a couple of Club 1 combinations, including a coloured 'house' with a drop on the other side. He was truly knackered afterwards! It's always good for me to see what he can do when ridden positively (the teenager admits he does need 'riding') and gives me something to work towards.
As always Saint Sam lived up to his name. We laughed at the beginning because he made a fuss about walking past the most teeny jumps but once he got working he was an angel, taking everything in his stride, even some quite big/scary stuff. He was wearing his Boa boots (the ground can be a bit pebbly) and they were no problem at all, he just stormed round.
There are some pix too ....

Hope you're feeling better today rac. You don't look too bad at all in that picture! Love the teenagers determination in the one with her riding paco, he's really working! Sam's looking well too, just stepping over the jump! Well done for getting out there and doing it, sounds like a lovely day out, apart from you feeling ill!

Poor you - I'm not sure if have managed xc at all in that state!
Paco has lovely tidy front legs doesn't he?! And great to hear that Sam is going well. Interesting to read that you jumped him in hoof boots - I'd be worried about them pulling them off but it sounds like they worked well. Good to know as I have some Boas that I plan to try on Indio in case he gets footy, they're great boots.

Thanks guys, much better today in the tum dept, just a little headachey so the fact it is raining is not a bad thing as it has forced me to take it easy. Pboy, We have found the Boas really good for Sam. The Easyboot Trails were not so good because of his odd hoof - but having said that, now he is trimmed properly his hoof shape is pretty good and certainly wouldn't stop a galloping horse He does do a lot of work barefoot but since he still has a sensitive spot on the dodgy foot he doesn't like sharp stones. The Boas haven't (yet?) ever come off, unlike metal shoes which he pulled off from time to time (short coupled) and when he did they took great chunks of foot with them. My only concern is that Boas are discontinued. Not sure what I will turn to when they are no longer to be found on ebay etc.
