Took H to working hunter today at the RS. Went out to warm up about and one other girl there on a pony, then a girl came into the arena with a young horse that was messing about. H must have been feeling a bit fresh esp as it was windy and he started getting a bit silly, tail in air, poncing about and puffing himself away up even though the horse was at the far end of the arena. Was already nervous about the competition as haven't jumped him much so I think this extra bit of silliness tipped me out of my comfort zone and I felt terrified and ready to jump off! Was shaking like a leaf and admit I was that scared I had a bit of a cry! owner went and got his boots and hat on but while he was away the girl took the horse away and he settled so I started warming up and tried a little crosspole which went fine but was nervous doing it. Completely felt like bailing and not doing the class at all, felt like I was going to be sick! Knew I would kick myself though and RI wouldnt have let me anyway!
Mum went to ask if I could do the starter stakes instead and RI said that was OK I could go at the end so stood and waited. However at last minute she said she was going to put them up a couple of holes and then I could do it, craft! So I ended up doing the novice horse like I originally planned on which was about 70cm.
As it was a RS comp she was letting us go over any jumps we were worried about before starting. One I was worried about was the chute with a bit of a pallet at the end to jump out over. He was spooky at it and leapt it, felt like I was hunting! But did it a few more times and he accepted it! Was good to have RI there for encouragement and advice! Did another one with a wee house and branches under it but he wasn't too bad with that and then one with tyres which was OK. I trotted round the whole course holding my breath practically but we went clear so was glad to have completed it!
Got first but was just me and another girl who fell off as she was going too fast and the girl with the horse that was messing about wasn't competing just schooling round it. Don't really care what I got, just glad I completed it and didn't bail and it was a good learning experience for H too. All about getting out there and giving it a go! Owner said he had been sillier one time in the lesson and I got on fine but I think it was just because I was nervous already today! He didn't mind whether I did it or not so the only pressure I had was from myself!
