Silly Sam was looning around in the paddocks with Rac and has done himself an injury. Nothing terrible, but he was hopping lame at first and is now on anti-inflammatories and anti-biotics.
The antibios are a powder and he has to have a lot of it, twice a day. The vet said to put it in a bran mash - I don't like bran because of the P/C imbalance but I guess that for a few days it will do him no harm. The trouble is, he's not very keen on it - even though most horses apparently like it. I've tried chopping carrots into it, which he just picks out, so I grated them, not much better. Tonight I put some brown sugar in, which went a bit better but he still didn't eat it all, and it was only half a scoop of bran.
Not sure if I can get molasses here so any other ideas?

Can you get powdered spearmint it'll really add flavour to the mash? Mashed Banana and cinnamon?
I make a mash for Pest of grated carrot and apple, mashed banana and he woofs it down.

No help from me- I found Sam could be quite finicky with new flavours- took him ages to accept mints etc, but why the antibiotics? In case of an abscess?

Just thinking- he and Basil loved their pony nuts- so could you maybe grind some down and mix with the bran?

Exactly that Brig, the vet did say he was playing safe since its his dodgy foot, which is fragile. He was much better yesterday at least. And you are right about him being picky! Down here horses are given dry bread as a treat but it took him ages to 'get' it!

Thanks BD, your recipe worked a treat - I can't say he actually wolfs it but he does manage to get it down.
