Went for a lesson again this week at the riding school. There's been terrible rain and flooding over here and half the indoor got flooded so we had the lesson sloshing round the outdoor but at least it was dry!
Started off quite calmly warming up in open order - there was only 2 other ponies in at this stage as everyone else was late - and he started getting all tense and spooky and puffed away up to about 18hh and pracncing about with tail in air and trying to buck - nearly pooped myself and was ready for bailing but RI wasn 't going to let me off with it and encouraged me to ride him forward even though I felt if I let go he would explode! The rest of the ride came down at that point and I managed to get him walking and once we started he was much better, like he'd been deflated!
After that episode, I got some really good work out of him, we worked on leg yielding during the lesson and one exercise in particular was brilliant for him he really started to work and listen to my aids. We had to trot round a square and go straight on the sides and then do a nice turn on each corner.
Cantering was good too but I'm quite tense and he's a weight in my hands so I think that's just a matter of learning to relax in his canter and doing plenty of transitions - he's not so great at trot to canter but good at canter to trot.
Another good point is that he doesn't seem to care about the puddles he just slaps through them which is brilliant. Murphy hates slapping through a wet arena he doesn't go well at all when its waterlogged.
Disappointed though that the dressage is cancelled tomorrow due to the indoor being flooded, hoping to go for a hack if the weather is OK though!
Feeling overall there was a lot of achievements in the lesson!
