Took Brave to an arena event today. I had my brave pants on and entered the 65cm and 75cm.
I was feeling good after the 65cm as we had one unlucky pole because Brave and I were having a debate about which of the two fences in front of us we were jumping. And I was feeling pretty proud of myself for remembering a 16 fence course with lots of twists and turns.
In the warm up for the 75cm Brave got a bit spooked by a couple of other horses flying around and I got a bit spooked by him being a little jumpy, so my nerves were on edge before I went into the arena, let's just say the course was well up to height and as the event was running 2.5 hours late it was 3pm by the time I was riding and the sun was pretty low and dazzling from some directions. Went into fence two hanging onto Brave as the nerves had taken hold, the light was bad on this jump and Brave hesitated and I was making the classic mistake of looking down at the jump and went straight over his shoulder as he went into reverse. Brave was like uh -oh that shouldn't happen to Mum.
As it's a grass roots venue they let you back on to finish, and after my fall he jumped the rest with no hesitations or wobbles, despite a nervous Nellie on his back.
Strangely from a confidence perspective I actually feel fine about the fall, I think I have been long overdue one and since I hurt my hip I have been riding very protectively of it and in fact falling off didn't hurt that much and the hip is fine! Fortunately!
