Rac has had his one remaining shoe off this morning (he managed to pull the other one off before the maréchal arrived, thank you) and is now in semi-retirement while the teenager is at uni. He will remain barefoot now, his feet are hard as nails anyway.
Now I have three barefoot horses I have just bought a Riders' Rasp after reading such good things about them. I will gently rasp to control flare (Sam) and keep Dr Evil trim and a mustang roll on Rac, although I think the sand they are now on will do that pretty naturally.
It is of course coming from the UK so I must wait a few days for it. Anyone else use one?

Funny you should mention this! A friend had one of those and didn't get on with it so I recently bought a woodwork file for about £10. Touch wood it works a treat. Pete has been getting little bits breaking off leaving sharp edges which I am now able to tidy up.

it does look user friendly, I like the traditional ones as they are easy to check balance, not as ergonomic as this though, and I did rather file my hands to shreds when I first used it!

According to feedback on other forums it is easy to maintain the mustang roll with it as it is a right-angle rasp. I am cack handed with a real rasp and not only do I rasp my hands but think I might take too much off the hoof too!

I use an old farrier rasp to trim Rose but as you say I have many cuts from rasping my own hands! I really don't know how farriers can do it! I want to get a proper stand though would make life easier.
Now Rose is finally in enough work her feet have started dramatically chipping away but they are looking a much better shape now.
Her back feet only need a quick raps to make a smooth line again its her fronts that need the work.
My RI is proper old school bhs type and always commenting on Rosie's feet, how bits are missing and chipped *sigh*
I think if they weren't so expensive Rac I think I would get one.
