Firstly foot balance could be a factor, my horse had reccurrant thrush for years and then a new farrier and correct balancing cleared it up completely. Also your bedding could be to blame, if she is inside make sure the bed is kept really clean and you pick out at least twice daily. Use hibiscrub to scrub out the hoofs then flush through deep clefts with hydrogen peroxide (from the chemist) use a syringe to get it right into the affected cleft. If this doesnt work try another form of cleanser- someone on here swears by milton sterilising solution. The trick is to keep the sole and frog clean and aired for as long as possible.

That's me with the Milton (although Morrisons own does the same job). Also like to use the No Water Hand Sanitiser stuff to rub into the frog once the Milton has dried off. (Tbh it was a bit of a fluke when I discovered this combination but it really does work! AND it saves you that embarrassing conversation at the chemists about Hydrogen Peroxide and thrush..."it's for my horse, honest!")

The recess of my memory is saying something about straw bedding .... more absorbent bedding such as hemp or ideally wood pellets help clear up thrush ..... or did I dream this?

Tordi has had thrush recently and his near fore is still concerning me. I've put it down to the very wet winter and his straw bed; he's on full livery and sometimes, depending on whose been on his bed has been less than ideal.

I am using an occasional squirt of alamycin from vet. It's very blue but great for bugs! Think thrush is a fungal bug? Could be wrong but whatever causes it we had good success curing Barney last year with it.
