Im hoping you guys can help me shed some light on what u think this lump is. Its very hard and as you can see from my picture that I can 'grab' it and it does move about slightly. Just wondering if you reckon its a bite or a sting from something? or something more sinister. I'm thinking that if it does or doesn't change in some way by Monday I'm going to get the vet. I'm not sure weather it was just a fly she was kicking at or weather me messing with it was bothering her. Not the greatest of photos as was difficult to show how big it was.

Faiths got something similar. We asked the vet a few years ago now when it first appeared and he didn't seem worried - said it was probably hormonal or a reaction to something in he field (buttercups maybe?). Basically I was told to just keep an eye on it and if it got bigger/changed shape then get him back out, but for now, don't worry. I THINK she's still got it...will have a prod when I go up to see her shortly...but it's never bothered her and lshes quite happy for me to prod it so I'm not too worried. Fx Roaies is the same -just a random lump!

Looks very like a bite from a taon (clegg?) - the humungous flies, y'know? Sam had one near his girth last week, it lasted a good few days and was quite hard but easily manipulated. It disappeared on its own. How's Rosie's?

Basil had a lump very similarto this and Im sure it was a clegg bite. Season for them is nearly done- then its the turn of the horse flies!

Lucky you - our taons go on for ages .... What are your horseflies like? We get nasty triangular ones (not the triangular ones you find under their tails) - they are vicious!

like house flies but bigger and actually bite, very tenacious! At least our cleggs only have a short life cycle, but Im sure as our springs get warmer they will adapt!
