Brilliant day today! Went to a local agricultural show today - it wasnt in a 'traditional' field though, venue was a purpose built park designed to house the RUAS Balmoral Show held in May (if any of you have heard of it) which had outgrown its former location. So i got the luxury of riding on a lovely fibre sand surface for the showjumping and perfectly flat and smooth grass arena for my show class!
I entered the ridden veteran pony class. Due to my age there is not a lot of classes i can enter showing wise (i am too old for murphys height) apart from mountain and moorland or veteran classes. As he is not a registered breed, i am lucky he is a 'veteran' really otherwise i wouldnt get the chance to do a bit of showing lol!
Early start though as i was one of the first classes on at around 9am. Murphy went really well, he held his outline in trot so well, longer than i would normally be able to maintain it - perhaps he knew he was supposed to show off! I thought he felt a bit slow but mum videoed a bit and it wasnt too bad, think it feels worse than it looks! he looked class in the videos and pics!
It was a very simple format - we just walked and trotted together and then did an individual showpiece. There was rather an assortment of ponies, mostly younger children on older heinz 57 types although a few nice welsh sec a/b types, and there was a girl around my age on a lovely dark bay mare, very well turned out, double bridle etc.
Was really chuffed to be pulled in first!!
Did the clear round jumping as well, one round in each class, he wasnt great really in the first class although i got a clear round - did 70cm - just lacking enthusiasm and then chipping in or taking off early. I had entered the 80s as well and i was feeling butterflies and i think this maybe helped him a bit as he was more enthusiastic feeling, he felt a bit lighter in front of me, although lost the throttle a bit as i went round but it was still much improved and although he did a bit of chipping and big jumps, i was so pleased at him being a bit more enthusiastic - he did do a stop on me and i near went over his ears but i slid back into the saddle and took him round again no problem - he had jumped big over no 7 and then strides got muddled for 8 by the time id got myself gathered up a bit.
Overall very pleased with the jumping as well!
Pics to follow!
