Eeeek! Quite excited and really want to join in BUT I'm also quite aware that Faith isn't quite as fit as I'd like, that i ride with rather 'unconventional' tack (i,e, no tack a lot of the time!), that I'm absolutely PANTS at map reading aaaand that she generally doesn't go much faster than a trot/jump The bit I'd like to do most is the PTV bit. Do you think they'd let us just do that bit? And if we needed to, could we do it all in hand? Help much appreciated (Also, it could be interesting trying to ride on our 'familiar' stomping grounds with several 'unfamiliar' horses...torn between being excited and terrified!)

Enter for it all anyway and give it a go, faith will probably surprise you! Sure if you cant do some parts of it you can just skip on to the next bit! I think theres parts you have to do in hand anyway so it probably wont matter if you are on her back or off it lol! Will be great craic! DO IT!

Most of the clubs here that host TREC offer a PTV only - but you would be missing out Spotti! Half the fun is getting hopelessly lost and missing all the markers/controls etc! If you do it in a team (min 3) it's an absolute hoot.

Thanks guys, that's pretty much what I'm saying to myself : it will be fun, just DO IT! Not so sure about doing it in a group (will have to see who else is entering as Faith is often better on her own - for a horse that used to nap and bolt, she's not in the least bit bothered whether she's got a friend to follow or not!) although I can see it being a good laugh if I did. Think I might send the organisers an email and ask them all of my questions, and if they come back and say "go for it!" then I think I just might! Already had the clippers out on Faith in preparation for our fittening work... (she's not quite finished yet, been doing it in stages, but she's been ever so good - she almost fell asleep this morning!)

No, the training day is on the 2nd and actual TREC is on the 3rd. I'm a bit sad but I'm not doing it . I was umming an aahing for a while about Faith being fit enough and about whether she would behave herself around strange horses, I was also trying to convince a friend to do it as a team (I'm SHOCKING at resding maps!) and also worrying about what might happen to the baby if I fell off...things didn't quite work out how I'd hoped and also I've left it a bit late now and so I've made the sad decision to give it a miss . There's still the option to help out on the day but again, I seem to be putting off getting organised as I can't tell if I'm going to be able to manage to not throw up (Bloomin' morning sickness!!!). I'm hoping I might be allowed to watch if all else fails. Quite sad about it all really but the risks of breaking Faith (she's fine for about 3-4 miles but would probably struggle with the 6/7 in the comp) and potentially hurting the baby if I fall off are just too high.

Probably a sensible choice under the circumstances. Faith's fitness aside, they can behave erratically' when things are different/more exciting than normal, they'll always be another day after the little un's here safely x

Yeah, I know, that's what the sensible bit of my brain keeps saying...but I'm still feeling a bit sad about missing out! It's the first time in YEARS that Faith has been sound enough to even consider anything like this, but like you say, there will be other times .

So the TREC is on today. Training day was yesterday and by the sounds of it, it was great fun! Feeling quite sad that we've missed out (I know it's for a good reason, but I still can't help but feel a bit sad ). On the plus side, I managed to get Faith out for a quick hack this morning before the competition started and we saw some of the PTV obstacles (have I done that right?) and had a play with some of the less-likely-to-get-damaged/moved-if-we-touched-them ones (such as a few flag markers, we went through some corridors, up the XC steps, the water jump - which we've done a zillion times but it was different with all the flags in there!) and Faith was really really good! (Surprise surprise lol). She initially saw the flags and got excited (she LOVES anything even vaguely flag-like ), then went a bit jumpy as we passed what I'm assuming was a holding area (taped off bit near one of the XC log jumps) but then took everything else in her stride and just carried on as if having flags and random obstacles dotted around was completely normal . The fact that she was so good made me more sad that we'd missed out in the training day yesterday, but tbh I'm quite glad that we've not entered the main competition today as I think Faith might have gone a bit silly if she saw the other horses charging about/overtaking us. I'm sure that with a friend she would have been able to settle down again, but if anything happened and I fell off, I don't think I'd ever forgive myself if I hurt the baby... But still, I'm really glad that we got to have a quick play with the obstacles and that she kept her head even when she saw strange horses and lorries/trailers in her winter field . The friend who was considering doing the TREC with me has said that she too feels a bit sad about missing out, but we've vowed to do it next time...whenever that may be! Also going to do some training stuff with her in the school (Faith can show Jack that flags are coooooool and that bridges are for stomping over - my pony ain't scared of no trolls ) so that should be fun
