pboy has recently recommended Red Horse products to me because Tordi has had some issues with thrush. I'm really impressed with their write up and I just wondered if anyone else had any experience with their hoof products. I'm particularly interested in the Hoof Stuff and the Sole Paint; they look very interesting.

I've used most of it apart from the sole paint. It's brilliant stuff as it's all made out of natural ingredients so isn't harsh on skin or hooves. The honey heal is great for mud fever, with the wet winter we had, the boys turned the area around the feeder into a bit a of quagmire and both got a touch of mud fever with Boo having quite a sore patch on his hinds. After just using the honey heal a couple days there was a vast improvement. I've been using a lot of hoof stuff and artimud recently since there have been a lot of cracking feet and thrush after a very wet winter and now the grass coming through. Why in particular is it the hoof stuff you are interested in? It's great for very deep cracks or if your horse has quite a nasty infection in the central sulcus in the frog and it's gotten deep, but for shallower cracks the artimud does tend to stay better. Both are great products, so it's just a case of finding which one suits what you need better. I've never used the sole paint so can't comment on how it is (though am pretty sure it'll be as good as the other products). Sole cleanse is good as a daily spray for horses that may have just a touch of thrush or are prone to it. I have quite a few clients who use field paste as they have older or retired horses who don't come in and have feet picked out every day, so they get this applied a couple times a week and it keeps on top of stinky feet.
Another product I've heard good things about to treat thrush is NT-dry, though not used this myself yet, so that's only going by reviews and what others have said.
Whoops, turned into a bit of an essay, lol, but anymore questions feel free to ask. Another good tip for cleaning out deep central sulcus is to floss it (not with actual floss lol).

Ive used Field paste it is good stuff but I havnt found a way of keeping it in her hoof. She has deep grooves. I was looking into their other products as always suffers with thrush.

Jangles, I was thinking of the Hoof Stuff as Tordi has a deep "crack" in his fog and my farrier thinks he's had an abcsess. T's still quite tender around it and I want him to be comfortable. I may get the Artimud instead though as it sounds like it may stick better generally. Thanks for the info x

Thats really interesting. Products to bear in mind. Basil had thrush for years, literally, I could get on top of it but never clear it up completely, its now gone and I think its a combination of wood pellet bedding, gravel paths and correct hoof balance. Yours sounds as though its more related to frog trauma though Zara?

Sulcus splits are a real problem, it's well worth trying the Red horse stuff it's all natural based so won't be any harsh chemicals.
