i definatly agree with maxi - they are simply snapshots, you hardly ever get to see the whole of the horse so therefore you dont know what the rest of the horse is doing, for all we know it could be rearing when it seems as though the head is being yanked backwards.
anything can damage a horse when used in an improper way. i carry a whip with blossom and use it when required as a reminder and i have been known to give her a short sharp smack with it when really misbehaving but she has no objections to this and stops thinks about what she is doing and rectifies accordingly, if she was in pain then im pretty sure she would carry on fighting me by either going slower or generally misbehaving.
these are just my views and other people may have differen opinions and i am happy to take these into consideration because we are all united in one thing (well several really!!) - our neddies.

i think the main problem is the teaching at the early stages...i agree alot with the video, we sometimes label horse pain as "our horses are being difficult" . if it was up to me, everyone would be taught to ride with no reins... and then progress, onto reins, cos i believe this is more of a skill. remember - to do everything on a horse we have to learn how do nothing.
nothing means, anything tat interfers with the horses natural way of going.
