Took the teenager to a complet with Rac on Sunday. It was raining and, after weeks of hot weather, we did not go prepared so got very wet. Still, it cleared up in the afternoon and the rain had made the XC going very good.
The teenager has become bored with the XC in Club 3 and after a SJ training day last week over 95cm-1m in which Rac was sailing over stuff, she racked up the level to Club 2. Rac did his best dressage test yet, not brilliant but no silly stuff but we were disappointed she was marked down for him being too 'open' at times. This didn't strike me as fair as all the other horses were wearing gogues. Thought a score of 59% was harsh. Anyway, the teenager was pleased that Rac had been relatively sensible.
Unusually the SJ was next and he was very comfortable over 95cm, just got two bars down as the teenager tried to balance him too close to the jump - he needs to be brought back from his fast dash on the turn and then left to himself otherwise he fights her and inevitably gets in too close.
She had a ball on the XC - he was terribly fast and she ended up going the long way around everything just to eat up some time. He was hilarious into the water - he didn't jump off the contre bas down into the lake, he just sailed into the air still galloping, like something from a cartoon, and hit the water still in motion ploof! But he was phased by nothing, not even the coffin which was a big one. Came in on the absolute limit of the fastest acceptable time, even with the detours.
It was a long day through: her dressage test was at 10.30am and the XC at 6.30pm - bad organisation! Finally got home at 9pm but the teenager was very happy. She came 16th out of 24, there were some serious dressage contenders at this level but she had fun and enjoyed herself.
Got a video to put up later.
